Sometimes transfering files from your laptop to android devices is such a pain. It is so easy if you just have a usb cable and if your PC can detect your andriod phone. But what if you don’t have with you a USB cable? Well, you can just ask a colleage and borrow his cable for a while. But what if yes you have the USB cable but your laptop just can’t detect your android device? This happens when the device driver is not installed. One solution is to upload the file you want to copy unto the cloud and just download it to your phone or use a WIFI file transfer app. But the problem is that you need to be connected to the internet whenever you want to transfer files.

Here Comes Airdroid

Using airdroid you can Manage your Android from a web browser, all over the air. You can move photos, videos, ringtones and any other files on and off Android, all without a USB cable. You can send SMS, make a call, see through your phone’s camera, manage apps and more.

Installing Airdroid

Before you can transfer files from any PC to your android and vice versa we need to install airdroid first. This step will be the only time that we will be needing an internet connection.

  1. Turn your device’s WiFi or mobile data connection on.
  2. Launch the Play Store App and search for airdroid

  3. Install it

The Meaty Part

After installing airdroid launch it. You will be greeted by the screen below:

If you are still connected to the internet it will display a link to http://web.airdroid.com. We don’t want this because you will be needing an internet connection to transfer files.

Go to the Tools tab and in the Others section tap Tethering:

Connect your network to “AirDroid AP” and open your browser to the IP address indicated in the popup displayed. In my case it is http://192.168.43.1:8888.

After opening the browser you can now see the AirDroid desktop.

Click the Files to manage your files. Just drag and drop files from your computer to transfer files. You can also download files from the android device to your computer.

You can now transfer files without your USB cable and internet connection.

Now just play around the AirDroid interface by clicking the other desktop icons. Enjoy!
